Frequently asked questions about Adrenaclick

It's only natural to have questions whenever your doctor prescribes a new medication. The frequently asked questions below will provide you with the answers you need, along with other valuable information.

Q: What is Adrenaclick?

A: Your doctor has prescribed Adrenaclick because you or your child have experienced a serious allergic reaction, also known as anaphylaxis. Adrenaclick contains auto-injectable epinephrine for emergency treatment of life-threatening allergic symptoms. It can help save patients' lives. Remember, use of Adrenaclick must be followed by emergency medical care.

Q: For what kinds of allergic reactions is Adrenaclick used?

A: Adrenaclick is indicated for use in the emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions that include stinging insects and biting insects, foods, drugs, substances that might be given during diagnostic tests, other known allergens, unknown substances, people undergoing treatment for a particular allergen, even allergic reactions brought on by exercise.

Q: I have heard of EpiPen®, so I'm familiar with that. But, what are the features of Adrenaclick?

A: Adrenaclick is a NEW auto-injector for the emergency treatment of anaphylaxis. Both EpiPen and Adrenaclick contain epinephrine in a single-dose auto-injector for the emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions. They both help relieve the symptoms of anaphylaxis and are available in identical dosage strengths.

Adrenaclick has clearly labeled caps, a red injector tip that indicates which end to inject, as well as color-coded instructions affixed to the injector.

Q: How is Adrenaclickdifferent from Twinject®?

A: Both Adrenaclick and Twinject® are epinephrine auto-injectors for the emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions. They differ in that Twinject® has a built-in emergency back-up dose of epinephrine, while Adrenaclick is a single-dose auto-injector.

Q: How do I use Adrenaclick?

A: New single-dose Adrenaclick is designed to provide accurate delivery of epinephrine when it's needed most.

Step 1
Remove the GRAY cap labeled "1". Never put thumb, finger, or hand over the RED tip
Step 2
Remove the GRAY cap labeled "2"
Step 3
Place RED tip on the middle of the outer side of the thigh. Press down hard until the needle penetrates the skin and slowly count to 10

Check the RED tip. If the needle is exposed, you received the dose. If needle is not visible, repeat step 3.

Follow the color-coded instructions on the device. You are also instructed to call 911 immediately. Full video instructions are available on this Website. Take the time to view this now so you'll know exactly what to do should an emergency arise.

Q: What should I do with the Adrenaclick auto-injector once it has been used?

A: After using Adrenaclick, the remaining liquid that is left cannot be further administered and should be discarded. To do that, put the auto-injector—needle first—into the carrying case. Put the gray case top over the non-needle end of the Adrenaclick unit and close the case. Give your used Adrenaclick to a healthcare worker for proper disposal. DO NOT throw it away in a regular trash can.

Q: Does Adrenaclick have side effects?

A: Like all medications, Adrenaclick does have some side effects. These can include temporary anxiety, apprehensiveness, restlessness, tremor, weakness, dizziness, sweating, palpitations, nausea, vomiting, headache, and/or difficulty breathing.

Q: Why is Adrenaclick available in two doses?

A: Selection of the appropriate Adrenaclick dosage strength is determined according to a patient's body weight. Adrenaclick is available in two dosage strengths. Each Adrenaclick auto-injector can deliver one dose of epinephrine in either 0.15 mg or 0.3 mg. The 0.15-mg dose is for patients who weigh approximately 33-66 pounds (15-30 kilograms). The 0.3-mg dose is for patients who weigh approximately 66 pounds or greater (30 kilograms or greater). Your doctor will carefully consider the dose that is right for you.

Q: How long does Adrenaclick last before it expires?

A: Adrenaclick expires approximately 12 to 15 months after your prescription is filled at the pharmacy. Individual pharmacy practices vary so be sure to check the expiration date on your injector before you leave the pharmacy.

Q: Where can I get more information and materials for Adrenaclick?

A: There are a number of valuable resources and support programs that are available from Shionogi Inc., the distributor of Adrenaclick.

The Adrenaclick website offers valuable education about anaphylaxis, a wealth of patient materials, and links to other websites. Also available on the website:

Q: What if I/my child needs more than one auto-injector during an anaphylactic reaction?

A: Some reactions may require more than one dose of epinephrine to reverse the symptoms. That's why Adrenaclick is available as a single unit or as a "Two Pack." A crush-resistant carrying case has been specially designed so Adrenaclick can be carried separately or locked together as a Two Pack. Ask your doctor if you or your child should carry 2 Adrenaclick auto-injectors.

Q: My child just experienced his/her first anaphylactic reaction. Where can I go to learn more about anaphylaxis?

A: You can read all about anaphylaxis at this Website, and find links to other websites that provide a wealth of additional information. www.adrenaclick.com is a great resource for you and your family. Come back as many times as you like...it's worth exploring.

Indication

Adrenaclick® (epinephrine injection, USP) is indicated in the emergency treatment of severe allergic reactions (Type I) including anaphylaxis to stinging insects (e.g., order Hymenoptera, which includes bees, wasps, hornets, yellow jackets and fire ants), and biting insects (e.g., triatoma, mosquitos), allergen immunotherapy, foods, drugs, diagnostic testing substances (e.g., radiocontrast media), and other allergens, as well as anaphylaxis to unknown substances (idiopathic anaphylaxis) or exercise-induced anaphylaxis.

Adrenaclick® is intended for immediate administration in patients with a history of anaphylactic reactions. Selection of the appropriate dosage strength is determined according to patient body weight. Such reactions may occur within minutes after exposure and consist of flushing, apprehension, syncope, tachycardia, thready or unobtainable pulse associated with a fall in blood pressure, convulsions, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal cramps, involuntary voiding, wheezing, dyspnea due to laryngeal spasm, pruritus, rashes, urticaria, or angioedema.

Important Safety Information about Adrenaclick®

Adrenaclick® should only be injected into the anterolateral aspect of the thigh. Accidental injection into the hands or feet may result in loss of blood flow to the affected area and should be avoided. DO NOT INJECT INTO BUTTOCK. DO NOT INJECT INTRAVENOUSLY.

Epinephrine should be administered with caution to patients with cardiac arrhythmias, coronary artery or organic heart disease, or hypertension. In patients with coronary insufficiency or ischemic heart disease, epinephrine may precipitate or aggravate angina pectoris as well as produce ventricular arrhythmias. It should be recognized that the presence of these conditions is not a contraindication to epinephrine administration in an acute, life-threatening situation.

Adverse reactions to epinephrine include transient, moderate anxiety; apprehensiveness; restlessness; tremor; weakness; dizziness; sweating; palpitations; pallor; nausea and vomiting; headache, and/or respiratory difficulties.

The effects of epinephrine may be potentiated by tricyclic antidepressants, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, sodium levothyroxine, and certain antihistamines, notably chlorpheniramine, tripelennamine, and diphenhydramine.

Adrenaclick® is designed as an emergency supportive therapy only and is not a replacement or substitute for immediate medical care.

Since the dose of epinephrine delivered from Adrenaclick® is fixed, the physician should consider other forms of injectable epinephrine if doses lower than those available from Adrenaclick® are felt to be necessary (e.g., patients who weigh less than 15 kilograms, approximately 33 pounds).

IN ALL CASES, THE PHYSICIAN SHOULD INSTRUCT THE PATIENT AND/OR ANY OTHER PERSON WHO MIGHT BE IN A POSITION TO ADMINISTER THE EPINEPHRINE, IN THE PROPER USE OF Adrenaclick®.
